Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often marked by cynicism, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about following this endearing family navigate their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to bask in the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
