Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Military Operations.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and continuing offensive against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is unclear and the US has remained silent.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted debris fell on a residential area in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
