Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
