The former Liverpool manager says a return to coach Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, remarked that returning someday is a possibility. The 58-year-old, after a transformative near-decade reign featuring continental glory and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, has since taken on positions as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and providing guidance with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the league title in the previous campaign, but many fans who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the idea that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I declared I refuse to lead a different club within the country. So that means in case it's my former club...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, which suggests the choice could be mine down the line, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations would have to unfold to draw him back to management, Klopp admitted he isn't eager toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “No longing for management; No desire to be in the rain through long matches; I don’t miss going to interviews repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad talking freely, I appreciate that. With many victories meaning regularly a very good mood in the building. I still have Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended regarding Arne Slot, praising him for the tweaks that won the league last term. Liverpool have lost four in a row in all competitions post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the suggestion that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. An outstanding player. The French striker, excellent performer. They have a strong balanced team. No need for concern regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and its impact at the club. Jota died tragically in a vehicle collision together with his sibling in July.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it's his character. I can’t imagine the dressing room without him in it. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. It was an incredible shock for all the boys also. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it as an excuse yet it's the reality. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Handling this emotionally is difficult. Unbearable.”
