The acclaimed crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh installment, confirmed by the BBC.

An upcoming six-episode series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."

The previous season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that attracted over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only came recently.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.

Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."

New Character and Complex Case

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.

The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.

The conclusion of series six brought the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.

However, the network announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
