The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh installment, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The previous season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that attracted over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.
However, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the news and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."
Show History
Line of Duty launched in 2012 and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Lennie James.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of series six brought the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the network announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
