The Latest Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad has just eight human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by real players award full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for players seeking alternative ways to have fun with the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 players are mad.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while another lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback
Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
Should the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
