The President Calls Loved Ones of Shot National Guard Personnel to White House
President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Incident
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their honor.
Presidential Invitation
The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump told reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Response
Attendees came together over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid public safety in the capital.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, stated to the media. “She was sweet, considerate and always ready to help others.”
Service arrangements for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Judicial Measures and Policy Adjustments
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the government to halt asylum processing and cease granting entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed the program that she also intended to visit the family.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with honor, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had fortitude,” he addressed the audience at the vigil. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
