The Princess of Wales's Annual Yuletide Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.

The sizable congregation will hear a selection of carols, music and readings from stars like award-winning actors.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The focus of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Performance and Potential

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the trust, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by television on December 24th.
