Toronto Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Astros securing the World Series in 2017.

Canada's MLB team earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic after 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Down by two runs, Springer smashed a three-run homer in the seventh, leading the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series triumph in the series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the upcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for this squad, Toronto, Canada," commented Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 title. "It's truly an amazing experience."

The veteran has now connected for 23 post-season home runs, placing him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of another person anywhere that I want up in that moment other than him with his October magic," said Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the only MLB franchise never to appear in a World Series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it's painful" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts this season.

"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we finished on the wrong side of this one," he remarked.

Toronto's team won the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on Friday.
